High Quality Mahogany Gates

Our High Quality line of gates are made of Philippine Mahogany with a thickness 1-3/4”. Mahogany is a dense wood that handles abuse quite well. It also offers a “Grand” and more heavy feel. This is a wood that is born and raised in a Tropical humid climate and is able to withstand moisture over the test of time. To further insure against moisture issues, we assemble these gates with a 2-part Epoxy Glue system. Boat builders and the Marine Industry in whole settle for nothing less than the 2-part epoxy system when joining any wood parts that will be exposed to high moisture areas. Although more expensive, tricky, and time consuming to work with, the bond created with this type of glue is one that you will not have to worry about in the future.

Economy Redwood Gates

Our Economy Gates are made using 2 X 6 Clear Kiln-Dried Redwood (2 X 6 is actually 1-1/2" thick by 5-1/2" wide).

Please be aware that due to the soft nature of Redwood, the Redwood product will be more prone to dents as well as periodic re-tightening of the gate hardware, hinge-screws etc. which over time have a tendency to loosen in the soft wood of a moving and self-supporting part such as a gate (unlike a stationary fence or Redwood deck).

Also the Clear Redwood that is supplied these days by the Forest Industries contains a very large amount of whitewood formally called “Sapwood”. The sapwood is susceptible to termite destruction as well as dry rot.  We do not paint, (nor hide these areas with paint) and prefer that you see and accept the entire Gate-Wood prior to your painting. Take extra caution to these "Light Colored" areas when finishing/painting making sure to completely seal the wood here.

Furthermore any future nicks/chips in this soft "Sapwood" should immediately be touched-up to prevent scouting termites to enter your gate in these paint-free areas.

Finishing tip for redwood:

Make sure to use a Redwood/Cedar specific primer to keep your final light colored Top Coat from “Yellowing” due to the acids in the Redwood that can bleed through other types of primers.

If you have ordered mortise and tenon joints, you are entitled to see this timely Craftsmanship before these parts are glued/locked together.

We take pride in our simplicity as well as our quality craftsmanship.  If you wish to let your own eyes reassure you of our quality, please ask us for a list of physical addresses of our gates which you can visit.
